Memphis is in the heart of the Delta, an area known for its fertile soil and long history of crop cultivation and farming. Farmers who operate in Memphis and the surrounding areas have the unique advantage of working with already optimal soil conditions for their crops.
However, farmers are only as good as their equipment, so selecting the correct tractor implements ideal for Memphis crop fields is important.
Let’s examine five tractor implements that help farmers tend their fields and gather a healthy harvest each season.

Field cultivators are designed to provide superior seedbed preparation regardless of soil conditions. The soil in West Tennessee is fertile but can also be hard and compacted. A field cultivator, like the John Deere 2230FH Field Cultivator, makes quick work of stubborn soil conditions. Its strong frame and advanced TruSet Tillage technology allow for on-the-go depth and down-pressure adjustments, ensuring consistent soil penetration and optimal seedbed preparation across different field conditions.
The 2230FH is a floating hitch field cultivator with a working width from 25 feet, 6 inches to 69 feet, 6 inches. This makes it the perfect tractor implement to tackle fields of any size. The floating hitch allows it to excel at staying level with the soil and following the ground contour. The variety of sweep options – like bolt-on, knock-on, and s-tine – allow the cultivator to perform well in different soil conditions. A good field cultivator is necessary if you deal with tough soil regularly.
Farming technology has advanced rapidly in the past few decades, and nowadays, precision agriculture technology is what every farmer should use. Precision planting is all about using computers and AI machine-learning technology to plant various seed types with extreme accuracy and efficiency. With the diverse crop portfolio available to Memphis farmers - like corn, soy, and cotton – you need a reliable precision planter to keep up with the workload.
The John Deere 1775NT Exact Emerge Planter rises to the challenge with its revolutionary seed delivery system. Its brush-belt delivery ensures precise seed placement at speeds up to 10 mph, allowing farmers to plant faster without sacrificing accuracy. It can handle 16 crop rows with 30-inch spacing and an optional insecticide add-on for a mini-hopper. The planter can also maintain consistent depth control in various soil conditions and automatically adjusts to maintain ideal seed depth.
Most modern sprayers use precision ag technology to ensure proper application when dealing with various environmental factors like rain, snow, heat and more. Memphis has a long growing season, and its hot and humid summers create an environment where disease and pests – like cotton bollworms, soybean rust, or corn earworms – are a real problem. The solution? A reliable sprayer like the John Deere 612R.
For precision application, See & Spray technology uses an advanced camera and nozzle-control technology to spray only weeds that have emerged from the soil. It works in conjunction with the ExactApply system and uses a six-nozzle turret with multiple modes of operation to distribute treatment accurately. Fewer products are wasted by inaccurate application, which increases your overall margins.
Tillage tools are necessary for many applications, like preparing a seedbed for the planting season, controlling weeds, managing crop residue, and removing compacted soil – an especially important point for Memphis crop fields. Because of the long, hot summers that West Tennessee experiences, soil compaction is a natural environmental factor. However, it doesn’t have to be unmanageable! Farmers can make quick work of stubborn, compacted soil with a strong tillage implement.
You can’t go wrong with a variable intensity implement for adaptability to different conditions, like the John Deere 2660VT Variable Intensity Tillage tool. This tillage tool’s 0-12 degree adjustable gang angle and wavy-straight double-edge blades make it adaptable to spring and fall environmental conditions, perfect for Memphis’ changing weather. This implement allows you to adjust tillage intensity on the go, so you can easily switch between aggressive tillage for residue management and lighter tillage for seedbed preparation.
The Memphis Delta has nutrient-rich soil, but that doesn’t mean it can’t also benefit from regular soil enrichment practices such as spreading manure. Manure is a fantastic organic fertilizer with nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Continuous crop production reduces these nutrients in the soil, so it’s necessary to reintroduce nutrients regularly, and one of the best ways to spread nutrient-rich manure is with a manure spreader implement. The process can be done manually, but isn’t it better to increase the efficiency with a tractor implement?
